“How do you get your significant other or friend to take good photos for you?”

I love that question! In today’s blog post I’m going to walk you through what creating content with me looks like, from start to finish. And that should hopefully answer this question for ya!

One of the first things I do is create a shot list. A lot of times this corresponds with captions I already have in my head or have already written down. I want photos that align with the words I’m going to be posting.

I go between keeping shot lists in my notebook and the notes app on my phone. While I do reference Pinterest for ideas, most of the time I can think of the photo I want without it.

I like to batch-work as much as possible, so I’ll set aside different outfits that I want to wear for the photos. Because I have my shot list, I can choose outfits accordingly! You can easily change up an outfit by simply adding a jacket or changing up your hair – giving you more content to spread out through the month!

Location scouting ahead of time also makes a big difference. You want a space that has multiple options for you – saving you time and energy. I’ll take the time to scout out locations the week of, at the same time of day that I’ll be photographing, to make sure we’re all good to go!

When it comes time to taking photos, if you’re working with a friend or significant other who isn’t as familiar with camera settings as you – don’t be afraid to teach them. I always set the camera up for them first (using them as my subject in the location where I want to be) and tell them how I’d like it shot (vertical or horizontal). And I’ll show them how to change the focus if they need to.

Having a shot list has come in really handy when working with those who aren’t familiar with posing people, either. Since I already know the shots I want, that means I also know the poses I want. It’s taken some getting used to, but as Rachel Hollis says – “confidence begets confidence” – pretending to be confident makes the experience more fun and starts to melt away any nerves!

Another reason why I love shot lists is because they keep things so efficient. Since you know what you want, you can reference your notes during the shoot to stay organized and timely. Win-win!

I do a content day at least once a month, and it’s been so helpful for having continuous fresh content that corresponds with the captions I want to share.

There you have it! Enjoy your next content day!
